Grizzlies Fall to RiverHawks, Lose Lead in Division

The Gateway Grizzlies twice came back against the RiverHawks Monday night but eventually fell 7-5 in front of 3,098 at GMC Stadium. The Grizzlies are now 28-21. Rockford is 29-21. With the win the RiverHawks took over first place in the Frontier League West Division. The loss snaps a six-game winning streak for the Grizzlies.

Rockford took a 2-0 lead in the second inning, but the Grizzlies came back. Todd Oetting hit his seventh home run of the season, then Phil Warren singled to score Chris Klosterman.

Rockford scored three in the third to go up 5-2. The Grizzlies again came back. They scored two in the fifth on three consecutive doubles by Warren, Ryan Sullivan, and Jimmy Reiter. That made it 5-4.

Oetting tied it in the sixth with his second home run of the night to tie the score at five.

Richard Austin's two-run home run in the eighth put the 'Hawks up for good.

Joe Dooely suffered the loss. He went 7 1/3 innings-his longest outing of the season. He gave up all seven runs on eight hits. He struck out seven. He is now 3-3.

The Grizzlies and RiverHawks continue the series with a 7:05 game Tuesday night.
