Richmond Roosters News Release
RICHMOND, INDIANA â The Richmond Roosters dropped two out of three games at McBride Stadium this past weekend to the Chillicothe Paints. The series started with a spectacular, extra-inning pitchers' duel and ended with a powerful offensive display with the Roosters only able to win the middle game of the series.
Friday night's game saw both teams fail to score a run through the first nine innings of play. Chillicothe's Rusty Swackhamer finally broke the scoreless tie in the top of the tenth with a solo home run. The Roosters were unable to rally in the bottom of the inning making the final score 1-0 in favor of the Paints. Chris Spigner led Richmond's strong pitching by giving up only three hits in six and two thirds scoreless innings of work.
Key Voshell led a resurgent Rooster offense in the second game of the series as he drove in three runs. Voshell's final RBI broke a 5-5 tie in the bottom of the seventh inning. Reliever Aaron Williams picked up the win in the 6-5 victory while Mike Henry recorded his first save of the season.
The Paints were able to prevail in a wild rubber match that featured 32 hits and 23 runs between the two teams. The Roosters fell behind 7-1 before rallying for six runs in the bottom of the sixth to tie the score. Drew Miller's three run homer with two outs capped the impressive comeback. The Paints struck back for three runs in the top of the next inning and never looked back on their way to a 14-9 victory.
The Roosters hope to continue their success at the plate and get back to stellar pitching that has been consistent all season as the Kalamazoo Kings visit McBride Stadium for a three game series starting Monday night at 6:35. The series will feature an Army sponsored student night on Tuesday and Christmas in July will be celebrated at McBride on Wednesday.
