Gateway Grizzlies News Release
NORMAL, Ill. - The Normal CornBelters scored three unanswered runs Sunday evening to score a come-from-behind 3-2 win over the Gateway Grizzlies in game two of a three-game series at The Corn Crib.
The Grizzlies fall out of second place in the West Division with the loss coupled with a River City win. At 18-18, the Grizzlies fall to a .500 record for the first time since May 29 when they were 4-4.
The Grizzlies scored twice in the first inning Sunday night against Normal starter Tyler Lavigne. Brandon Peters singled with one out. Logan Parker followed with a ground-rule double to right field. Peters scored on a groundout by Jareck West and Parker scored on a wild pitch to make it 2-0 Grizzlies.
Lavigne, now 6-2, allowed just two hits the rest of the night to the Grizzlies. The CornBelters' right-hander tossed his first complete game, allowing the two runs on four total hits. He struck out seven.
Normal (16-19) scored twice in the sixth inning to even the score before taking the lead in the seventh inning against Grizzlies starter Mark Brackman.
Brackman suffered the loss for the Grizzlies to fall to 2-4. He allowed the three runs on 10 hits over 6.2 innings. The right-hander struck out nine.
The Grizzlies and CornBelters wrap up the three-game series Monday night in Normal. First pitch is set for 7:05 pm.
