Ottawa, Ontario - The Gateway Grizzlies lost their fourth game in a row on Friday night against the Ottawa Titans at Ottawa Stadium, mustering a season-low one run of offense in a 3-1 defeat to open the final leg of their long road trip.

Through the first four innings, neither Matt Mulhearn (1-1) nor Ottawa starter Zac Westcott (3-0) allowed a hit, and Westcott had a perfect game going into the fourth, retiring the first ten batters he faced. Trevor Achenbach changed all of that by hitting a solo home run down the left field line, putting the Grizzlies ahead 1-0.

But again, the lead was short-lived, as with two outs in the bottom of the inning, David Maberry tied the game with an RBI single, and two pitches later, Will Zimmerman lined an RBI triple to right-center field to put the Titans up 2-1.

The home team would grab another run on an RBI groundout by Maberry in the sixth inning, and that was all Ottawa needed to win the game. The Grizzlies got the tying runs on base in the eighth with one out to chase Westcott, but Kevin Escorcia struck out Achenbach and Isaac Benard to preserve the lead, and then ended the game in the ninth when Abdiel Diaz grounded into a game-ending double play while representing the tying run.

The Grizzlies will try and snap their skid when they take on the Titans in game two of their series on Saturday, May 28, at Ottawa Stadium. Sam Gardner will pitch for the Grizzlies against the Titans' Jack Alkire, with first pitch at 5:00 p.m. CT.
