Fresno Grizzlies News Release

FRESNO, Calif. - The Grizzlies not only snapped their eight-game losing streak to Sacramento with a 9-5 victory, but they snapped Jason Windsor perfect record on the season Thursday night at Grizzlies Stadium.

Windsor (12-0) came in with an undefeated season on the line, but the Grizzlies hit him hard for 10 hits, eight runs in five innings pitched. With the game tied at 1-1 in the second inning, Grizzlies second baseman Jed Hansen singled up the middle to bring home Juan Melo to give Fresno the lead and Jason Ellison followed with a two-RBI triple to right field to make it 4-1 Grizzlies.

Fresno (54-79) put the game away in the sixth inning when Hansen took Windsor deep for a two-run blast, his 8th of the year. Two batters later, Fred Lewis knocked out his 12th home run off of reliever Brandon Puffer.

Fresno starter Jonathan Sanchez (2-2) picked up the win after pitching five innings, giving up two runs on four hits while striking out six batters.

Lewis finished three hits with a homer, double and two runs scored. Lance Niekro went 2-for-4 with two doubles and one RBI and Hansen finished 2-for-4 and three RBI.

The Grizzlies also snapped their six-game losing streak with the win and defeated the River Cats for the first this year since June 28.

The Grizzlies and River Cats continue their series Friday night at 7:05 with RHP Nick Pereira taking the mound for Fresno against Clovis resident Ben Fritz for Sacramento.
