Late runs lift Royals over RedHawks

The Omaha Royals scored two runs in the seventh inning to beat the Oklahoma RedHawks 4-2 Friday at AT&T Bricktown Ballpark in Oklahoma City .

The RedHawks had a 2-1 lead going into the sixth inning. However, Shane Costa hit his 10th home of the season to tie the game. Omaha added two more runs on four hits, all singles, in the seventh inning and held on for the win.

Omaha's Pat Mahomes earned the win to improve his record to 1-1. He followed a 2.2-inning rehab start by Mike Wood. Mahomes went 5.1 innings and gave up no runs on two hits with a walk and five strikeouts. He retired the first 11 RedHawks he faced, including his five strikeouts.

RedHawk starter John Rheinecker (4-4) took the loss. He went seven innings and gave up four runs, three earned on eight hits with three walks and four strikeouts. He gave up on unearned run on three hits in his first five innings and three runs on five hits in his last two.

Adam Hyzdu went one-for-three with two RBIs to lead the RedHawks offensively. Randall Simon singled in the eighth inning to improve his hitting streak to eight games.

The RedHawks and Royals meet again at 7:05 p.m. Saturday at AT&T Bricktown Ballpark. John Koronka is scheduled to start for Oklahoma and Donovan Osborne for Omaha.
