HEADLINES: Dickey leads RedHawks to win ... Rheinecker starts tonight ... RedHawks 3rd in ERA in the PCL
TODAY'S OPPONENT: The Omaha Royals are the Triple-A affiliate of the Kansas City Royals. They have been a member of the Pacific Coast League since 1998. Last year, they were 72-72 and finished second in the American Conference Northern Division.
TODAY'S GAME: The RedHawks continue their nine-game homestand against Omaha. It is their final homestand of the season. This is their 134th game, 66th home game and 14th game against Omaha. The RedHawks are on a stretch where they will play 21 of 29 games at home. They will finish the season with a four-game series at Albuquerque Sept. 1-4.
LAST GAME: RedHawks starter R.A. Dickey pitched his third complete game of the season in Oklahoma's 2-1 win over Omaha. Dickey gave up six hits, including a solo home run by Justin Huber, walked four and struck out two. Huber was two-for-three with a double, home run and RBI. Dickey stranded the bases loaded in the ninth inning. Anthony Webster was two-for-three with an RBI to lead the RedHawks offensively. Jason Hart was one-for-three with a double and an RBI.
VS. OMAHA: The RedHawks are 65-44 all-time against Omaha since the two teams joined the PCL in 1998. The RedHawks are 33-20 against the Royals at AT&T Bricktown Ballpark. The RedHawks have lost only one season series against Omaha since 1998 (1999). They have won the last six season series against the Royals.
PITCHING MATCHUP: Starting pitcher John Rheinecker makes his 14th start for the RedHawks. He has had six straight quality starts dating back to May 16 vs. Fresno. In his last six starts, he is 3-2 with a 1.20 ERA (6 ER/45 IP), 10 walks and 34 strikeouts. Rheinecker was 0-1 with a 9.31 ERA (10 ER/9.2 IP) in his first two starts. Since then he is 4-2 with a 1.56 ERA (12 ER/69.1 IP). Mike Wood will make a rehab start for Omaha and be followed by RH Pat Mahomes (0-1, 6.26).
SHUTOUTS: The RedHawks are tied for third in the league in shutouts with 11. Round Rock and Nashville have 12 shutouts this season. The 11 shutouts by the RedHawks is a club record. The RedHawks have also been shut out a club-record 10 times this season.
TEAM ERA: The RedHawks' team ERA is 3.85 (496 ER/1158.2 IP). The lowest team ERA in club history was 4.21 in 2003. The 2003 team finished eighth in the PCL in ERA. This year's team is currently third.
AUGUST: The RedHawks have the lowest team ERA in the PCL in August at 2.82.
CLOSE GAMES: Fifty-seven of Oklahoma 's 68 wins this season have come by four runs or less, including 30 one-run wins. Also, 49 of Oklahoma's 65 losses this season have come by four runs or less, including 17 by one run.
ONE-RUN WINS: The RedHawks lead the PCL in one-run wins with 30. Tucson is second with 24.
RADIO UPDATE: The flagship station for RedHawk baseball is KEBC 1340 AM. However, due to scheduling conflicts, the RedHawks can sometimes be heard on other stations. The RedHawks will be on AM 1000 KTOK Aug. 26 and Sept. 1. They will be on KFXY 1640 AM Sept. 3.
BRICKTOWN SHOWDOWN: The Triple-A Championship Game will be played at 6:05 p.m. Sept. 19 at AT&T Bricktown Ballpark. It will feature the champions of the PCL and IL.
DOT-DOT-DOTS: The RedHawks are 57-42 since Mike Boulanger took over as manager May 11 ... The RedHawks have lost eight of their last nine series openers ... RedHawk pitchers are second in the PCL in strikeouts with 1,003. New Orleans has 1,036 ... RedHawk pitchers are second in the PCL in complete games with seven. Nashville has eight.
