Vinny Castilla coming to Colorado Springs

COLORADO SPRINGS, CO - One of the greatest players to ever play for the Colorado Rockies is coming to Colorado Springs to play for the hometown Sky Sox on Monday, August 28. Slugging third baseman Vinny Castilla will be in uniform for the Sky Sox as they take on the Las Vegas 51s in a four-game series ending on August 31. Castilla is expected to play for the Sky Sox until Major League rosters expand on September 1when it is anticipated that the Rockies will call him up to Denver.

Castilla, a veteran of 15 Major League seasons, returns to Colorado Springs as a Sky Sox player for the first time in 12 years. He played for the Sox in 1994 and hit .244 with a homer and 11 RBI in 22 games that season. One of the most prolific offensive Mexican-born players in Major League history, Castilla is the all-time leader in hits (1,880), home runs (319), doubles (349), RBI (1,101), runs scored (900), extra-base hits (696) and total bases (3,242).

Among the Rockies' all-time records you'll also find Castilla's name on just about every offensive list. He ranks among the top five on the Rockies' career batting leaders in games played, at-bats, runs scored, hits, doubles, home runs, RBI, walks, extra-base hits, total bases and multi-hits games.
