April 20, 2014 - ECHL (ECHL)
Utah Grizzlies News Release
West Valley City, Utah - The Utah Grizzlies defeated the Bakersfield Condors 2-1 Saturday night at Maverik Center to even up the best-of-seven series at one headed to California.
Michael Pelech hammered in a lose puck 9:27 into the third period to break the 1-1 tie. Danick Paquette worked the puck up ice threw it in front and on the second effort got it to D.J. Jelitto before Pelech knocked in the score.
Bakersfield took a 1-0 lead 26 seconds into the first period, but that would be all they would get after outshooting Utah 12-6 in the first period. The Grizzlies outshot Bakersfield 11-1 in the second period and 24-13 over the final two periods as Head Coach Tim Branham changed up his lines to start the second period.
Utah tied the game at 1 with 5:42 left in the second period after killing 52 seconds of a five-on-three situation in which they did not allow a shot as the Condors looked to take a 2-0 lead. Coming out of the penalty box Teigan Zahn joined Brent Gwidt and Adam Pineault on a rush up ice and pivoted into the slot, blasting the shot home and giving Utah their first goal of the playoffs.
Aaron Dell stopped 24 of 25 shots in the game and made 12 saves in the third period to keep Bakersfield off of the board.
The Grizzlies penalty-kill went 5-5 in the game to improve to 11-11 over the first two games of the series.
The series now reverts to Bakersfield starting with game 3 Tuesday at 8 p.m.
