Fresno Grizzlies News Release
FRESNO, CA - The Fresno Grizzlies Ball Girl that took the nation by storm over the last several weeks will make the transition from Internet to traditional media during Major League Baseball's All-Star festivities in New York. The Ball Girl will shag flies in the Yankee Stadium outfield during Monday's Home Run Derby, and Gatorade is expected to resurrect the planned television ad campaign and debut the video during Tuesday's All-Star Game.
The "Grizzlies Ball Girl" viral video leaked on to the Internet in June, and has become an online sensation with more than 5 million views to date. The video features a ball girl at Chukchansi Park making an amazing, "did that really happen?" catch in the left-field corner during a Grizzlies game.
Now, like so many Grizzlies this season, the Ball Girl will make the jump from Triple-A to the Major Leagues, catching balls in the Yankee Stadium outfield at Monday's MLB All-Star Home Run Derby. The Home Run Derby will air on ESPN, with coverage slated to begin at 4:00pm PDT. According to Gatorade, she will be wearing her Grizzlies uniform in the same outfield once patrolled by Ruth, DiMaggio, and Mantle.
Additionally, because the video has attracted so many fans and the Ball Girl has been a hot topic of pop culture, Gatorade will premiere the full commercial in its entirety during the MLB All-Star Game. The 79th Major League Baseball All-Star Game, the last to be played in the current Yankee Stadium -- which closes at the end of this season -- will be televised nationally by FOX, with pre-game ceremonies beginning at 5 p.m. PDT.
The Fresno Grizzlies will return to Chukchansi Park to take on the Salt Lake Bees on Friday, July 18. The Triple-A All-Star Game will take place Wednesday night at Louisville Slugger Field, and will air live on ESPN2 at 4:00pm PDT.
