Round Rock Express News Release

ROUND ROCK - What appeared to be a sure gem for nearly nine innings Monday crumbled into an extra-innings loss for the Express.

Right-handers Jack Cassel and Chad Reineke retired the first 19 batters they faced and held Oklahoma to one hit over 8 1/3 innings before Casey Benjamin sent the game to extra innings in front of more than 9,500 fans at The Dell Diamond.

Reineke worked through the 10th frame, exiting with a 1-1 tie intact before Jorge Sosa allowed the go-ahead run and then some on two singles, two doubles and a walk in the 11th. Oklahoma's Wes Littleton shut the Express down in the final frame, sealing a 5-1 win for the RedHawks in the final game before the 2008 Triple-A All-Star break.

Cassel worked four perfect innings, fanning two and dropping his ERA to a PCL-best 1.78 before handing the ball over to Reineke, who allowed a Jason Ellison single and Chris Shelton walk with one away in the seventh, but retired the next six batters he faced before Benjamin tied the game with a one-out, one-one homer onto the right field berm.

The equalizing shot was the seventh of the series for the RedHawks and painted Round Rock, which was 2-7 in extra innings heading into Monday, into a deep corner.

Former University of Texas standout Taylor Teagarden singled off Sosa to start the 11th and put the RedHawks up 2-1 on Drew Meyer's RBI-double to right-center field.

Sosa picked up the second out of the inning before walking Shelton to load the bases. Nate Gold then cranked his 17th double of the season, plating three runs and sealing Oklahoma's third straight win.

Round Rock takes a breather for the all-star break and returns to action in Omaha on Friday.
