Tucson Sidewinders News Release

Tucson, AZ - The Tucson Sidewinders lost both games of Sunday's doubleheader against the Portland Beavers. Both games were one run games and the second game went into extra innings.

Tucson got out to an early lead 1-0 lead in the first game with a Josh Whitesell RBI single bringing in Tim Raines, Jr. from second in the first inning.

Portland captured the lead and didn't look back scoring three runs in the fifth inning. The first run came off of back-to-back doubles by Craig Stansberry and Peter Ciofrone. A Vine Sinisi single later in the inning scored Ciofrone and the last run came off a sacrifice fly by Justin Huber.

The Sidewinders scored one in the sixth inning on a Frank Curreri line drive single to right scoring Wilkin Castillo but it wasn't enough to take the first game of the double header.

In the second game, Portland took a quick lead in the first inning scoring off a wild pitch by Juan Gutierrez that brought in Vince Sinisi from third.

Tucson's Tim Raines, Jr. lead off the bottom first inning with a solo shot to left field tying the game 1-1. It was Raines' 13th home run of the season and his sixth in his last ten games.

The Beavers prevented the Sidewinder from tying it in the fourth by gunning down a runner at home following a Donnie Kelly single to left.

Portland took the lead in the bottom of the ninth inning with a Sinisi sacrifice fly that ultimately gave the Beavers the second game of the double header.
