Colorado Springs Sky Sox News Release

Brad Hennessey faced the minimum through five innings during his complete game effort Monday and Fresno took the finale from Colorado Springs 2-1, in front of 3,890 fans at Security Service Field.

Hennessey (6-5) allowed just five hits on the afternoon, including four hits in the first four innings. But three Sky Sox double plays and a caught stealing allowed the pitcher to face just 12 total batters in those innings. He also walked a batter and struck out two.

The Sky Sox only run on the afternoon came in the sixth inning on a Cory Sullivan sacrifice fly. Doug Bernier's pinch-hit single moved Jon Herrera to third base before Sullivan's sacrifice tied the game at one.

Josh Towers (5-6) took the loss after allowing one run in two innings of work.

Jake Wald's leadoff double in the seventh inning came back to hurt the relief pitcher. Wald moved to third base on Brett Harper's single to centerfield before scoring on a double play ball of the bat of Julio Cordido.

Valerio De Los Santos matched Hennessey pitch-for-pitch during his five innings of work, retiring the first 14 Fresno batters of the game. But the first hit he allowed was a towering home run off the bat of Harper. He allowed one more hit and a walk before calling it a day at the conclusion of the inning. He went five innings, allowed two hits, a run and struck out six against one walk.

The Sky Sox are off for the All-Star Break until Friday when they return to action in Portland. Jason Hirsh (2-2, 4.53) will pitch the scheduled 7:05 PT opener for the Sky Sox. Portland has yet to name a starting pitcher.
