Griffith Wins It in Triple Overtime to Take Game Three 2-1

PROVIDENCE, R.I. - Seth Griffith scored at 102 minutes as the Providence Bruins defeated the Hartford Wolf Pack in triple overtime in Game Three at the Dunkin Donuts Center on Sunday. With the win, the Bruins took a 2-1 lead in the best-of-five series.
For the third time in as many games this series, Hartford scored the first goal. At 10:33 of the opening frame, Brady Skjei wristed the puck past Malcolm Subban from just inside the blue line. Providence had three Grade-A scoring chances in the period, including Ryan Spooner missing the net in the slot during a power play. David Pastrnak missed high when he had the puck alone near the goal line, and Cory Kane shot one wide during a long Bruins rush.
Alexander Khokhlachev scored the second straight Providence goal, which came in the second and tied the game at one apiece. (He also had the game-winner on Saturday.) Chris Breen had the initial shot from the right point, and Khokhlachev buried the rebound backdoor with six seconds remaining in the period.
In the third period, both teams had a couple of great chances, but neither scored.
In the first overtime, the Bruins outshot the Wolf Pack 11-4. Yann Danis made two impressive stops of his own, one on a tip from David Pastrnak at the top of the crease, and the other on a Tyler Randell-led rush on a rebound.
In the second overtime period, Hartford had a game-high 16 shots, and Providence added 11. Subban made perhaps the scariest save of the game when the puck went off of his chest, hit the glass, landed back in the crease, and he blocked the ensuing bid.
Griffith scored the game-winner unassisted on a turnover, by walking into the zone two-on-two, then banked one off of the crossbar and in for the winner 2:00 into the third extra frame. It was the longest game in P-Bruins Playoff History. (There was another 3-OT, Game Three winner for Steven King on June 9, 1999 in the Calder Cup Finals.)
Game Four is Tuesday at 7:05pm at the Dunkin Donuts Center. Providence has the chance to close the series out on home ice, where the team had the fourth-best record in the regular season.
