GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – The Grand Rapids Griffins of the American Hockey League on Thursday assigned goaltender Logan Koopmans to the ECHL's Toledo Storm and signed netminder Michael Ayers to a professional tryout.

Ayers, 25, played 51 games for the Dayton Bombers of the ECHL as a rookie this season, posting a 15-28-8 record, a 2.90 goals against average and a 0.913 save percentage. He also appeared in two games with the AHL's Cincinnati Mighty Ducks, going 1-0-1 with a 1.45 GAA and a 0.952 save percentage, including a 30-save performance in a 2-1 shootout loss to the Griffins on Nov. 28 at Van Andel Arena.

In his final collegiate season with New Hampshire in 2003-04, Ayers placed second in Hockey East with 36 appearances and tied for second with five shutouts. As a junior, he led the conference with 41 appearances, 28 wins, seven shutouts and 2,499 minutes played, while ranking second with a 2.18 GAA.

Koopmans backed-up Drew MacIntyre during Tuesday's 4-1 loss at Milwaukee. The rookie has served as the understudy for either MacIntyre or Joey MacDonald for 10 games this season.
