Chicago Wolves News Release

ROSEMONT, Ill.---Playing in their third game in three days, the Chicago Wolves mustered 29 shots on goal but were handed their first shutout of the season, 1-0, by the Grand Rapids Griffins at the Allstate Arena Sunday night.

Chicago (13-7-1-1), which skated in four games in the last six days, has taken a hold of first place in the West Division with 28 points through 22 outings this year, owning a two-point edge over the next closest team. Sunday's game marked the club's second loss on home ice this season (6-2-0-1), second fewest in the American Hockey League.

"It was a tough weekend. We couldn't find the back of the net," said Wolves Head Coach Don Granato. "Obviously you want better results, but a season is a work in progress and each game you learn a little about yourself and where you're at as a team. We'll look at some things after this weekend."

Grand Rapids center Evan McGrath was responsible for the only offense in the tilt, which was also the Griffins' third matchup in three days. The forward cracked a scoreless tie, 27:24 into the game to take a 1-0 lead, which held up for the duration of the contest. The Griffins stripped a Wolves player of the puck near the blueline and chipped it up the ice, where McGrath knocked back a rebound for his fourth goal of the season.

Griffins netminder Daniel Larsson held off all 29 Wolves shots to earn his second shutout in 12 games this season (7-2-1), while Chicago goaltender Robert Gherson (3-2-0) held Grand Rapids (12-5-2-3) to just one goal in his second straight start, posting 28 saves in the loss.

After a two-day break, the Wolves will take on the Peoria Rivermen at the Allstate Arena on Wed., Dec. 3 at 7 p.m.
