
Pirates Shutout Monarchs 4-0

Portland, ME - The Pirates brought an end to their five game losing streak with a convincing 4-0 win over the Manchester Monarchs. Jhonas Enroth stopped 23 shots to pick up his second shutout of the season, while Colton Fretter scored two goals.
The Pirates were able to strike first early in the first period when Aaron Slattengren fed a pass in front for a Derek Whitmore one timer past Jonathan Bernier to give Portland a 1-0 lead. Slattengren got an assist along with Colton Fretter. The Pirates were outshot by the Monarchs 9-5 in the first period, but made the most of their opportunities to take their one goal lead into the second period.
In the second session, Portland would continue to control the play with the lone goal of the period going to Colton Fretter, who jammed home a rebound to make it 2-0 Portland. Slattengren and Mike Funk picked up assists on the play.
In the final period, Manchester tried to mount a comeback but a little past the midpoint of the session the Pirates would add some breathing room. Tyler Bouck chipped the puck out to center ice and sprung Felix Schutz on a two-on-one. Schutz faked a shot and put a perfect pass on the stick of Nathan Gerbe who buried it to give Portland a 3-0 lead. Gerbe's first goal since November 14th was his 13th of the season, with the assists going to Bouck and Schutz. The Pirates would add one more when Colton Fretter picked up a rebound in front and fired a shot high to make the final score 4-0. The assists on Fretter's second of the night went to Marek Zagrapan and Aaron Slattengren.
Jhonas Enroth stopped all 23 shots he faced and picked up his second shutout of the season, improving to 7-2-1-1 on the year. Jonathan Bernier made 22 saves on 26 shots and dropped to 5-3-2-1.
