
Greyhounds' Brandon Halverson Named Vaughn CHL Goaltender of the Week

Toronto, ON - The Canadian Hockey League today announced that Sault Ste. Marie Greyhounds' rookie BRANDON HALVERSON is the Vaughn CHL Goaltender of the Week for the week ending March 9 after posting a 2-0-0-0 record including a shutout victory with a goals-against-average of 0.50 and save percentage of .986.
Halverson stopped 68 shots last week in a pair of victories for the Greyhounds who locked up first place in the OHL's West Division for the first time since 2008. On Friday night Halverson earned his second career shutout with 35 saves as second star of a 7-0 win over the Sarnia Sting, then made 33 saves on Sunday as first star of a 5-1 win over the Windsor Spitfires.
Halverson, a 17-year-old from Traverse City, Michigan, was selected in the seventh round of the 2012 OHL Priority Selection. Eligible for the 2014 NHL Draft, Halverson was listed ninth among North American goaltenders by NHL Central Scouting in their Midterm rankings and has an 11-6-0-0 record with a goals-against-average of 2.79 and save percentage of .905.
Also considered for the award this week was Jordon Cooke of the Kelowna Rockets who went 2-0-0-0 with a shutout victory in three appearances last week posting a 0.43 goals-against-average and a .984 save percentage, while in the QMJHL Marvin Cupper of the Shawinigan Cataractes faced 100 shots in two games posting a goals-against-average of 1.92 and save percentage of .960 despite two losses.
