Grey Tops Green in Intrasquad Game

EVERETT, WA - Everett Silvertips training camp concluded Sunday afternoon with the annual Green vs. Grey intrasquad game at Comcast arena. Team Grey controlled most of this year's contest on its way to a 10-2 victory over Team Green as most of the 54 players remaining on Everett's preseason roster competed, with only a handful of veteran players sitting out the scrimmage.

Leading the way for Team Grey was returning forward Jari Erricson, who netted three goals to complete the hat trick. Another returner up front, Josh Winquist, was involved in both scores for the Green side with a goal and an assist. Grey outshot Green 42-26 in the contest.

Team Grey skated to a 4-0 first period lead, fueled by two penalty shot goals from Erricson and Dawson Leedahl. Defenseman Michael Zipp helped set up the game's first goal when forward Vladimir Dolnik, who was acquired by the 'Tips via this summer's European Import Draft, banged in a rebound off Zipp's slapshot from the blueline.

Team Green got on the board in a more evenly played second period when Winquist made a nice pass to the far post for Cole MacDonald, who tapped it into a wide open net. Grey countered however when Erricson and Carson Samoridny scored goals off setups from one another to give their side a 6-1 lead through the second frame.

Green pulled closer in the third when Cody Fowlie found Winquist alone in front of the net for their second tally of the contest, but the comeback was halted as Team Grey potted four more goals, two of which came off the stick of Kyle Raymond, on their way to the 10-2 victory.

The Silvertips will now prepare for their first preseason action next weekend when they host their annual Preseason Classic Tournament presented by the Holiday Inn Downtown Everett. All five U.S. Division teams will compete in a total of six games over a three-day span from Friday through Sunday, with the 'Tips taking the ice once each day. Everett will face the Tri-City Americans Friday at 7:00 pm, the Spokane Chiefs Saturday at 7:00 pm and the Seattle Thunderbirds Sunday at 5:00 pm.
