WINNIPEG, MB – The Canadian Football League today announced that Winnipeg, Manitoba will be the site of the 94th edition of Canada's Grey Cup to be played on November 19th, 2006.

In making the announcement on behalf of the Board of Governors, Commissioner Tom Wright spoke about the decision, noting the strength and vitality of the football organization and the enthusiasm and commitment from the City of Winnipeg and the Province of Manitoba in supporting the national event. "Winnipeg is the right choice for the 2006 Grey Cup. The team, the Province and the City are ready to showcase the very best of the Canadian game."

Commissioner Wright was joined by Premier Gary Doer, Mayor Sam Katz, and Blue Bombers' Chairman, Gene Dunn and President, Lyle Bauer in making the announcement. Premier Gary Doer noted, "We are delighted that Manitoba will host the 2006 Grey Cup and we look forward to a great event. With exceptional support from the community, and a proven track record in staging world class sports competitions, we are proud to see the return of Canada's Championship back to our province."

The Mayor, Sam Katz, echoed Premier Doer's remarks. "We are thrilled to be hosting the Grey Cup in Winnipeg once again," said Mayor Sam Katz. "This is a tremendous opportunity to showcase some of Winnipeg's best qualities – the hospitality of our citizens, the spirit of our volunteers, and the energy of a city that knows how to throw a party. We can't wait to welcome CFL fans from coast to coast to Winnipeg in 2006."

The 94th Grey Cup will be played at Canad Inn Stadium, which will be temporarily expanded for the national championship to host fans from across Canada. While specific details of the Grey Cup Festival will be announced at a later date, Club Chairman, Gene Dunn, stated, "The Winnipeg Blue Bombers Football Club is thrilled that we have been awarded host city for the 2006 Grey Cup. Hosting Canada's premiere national championship is an honour not just for thi! s Club but for all Manitobans. With the full cooperation and support of Mayor Sam Katz, Premier Gary Doer and our hundreds of dedicated volunteers, we are committed to presenting a Grey Cup event that all CFL fans and Canadians will enjoy."

In addition to the thousands filling Canad Inns Stadium, the Grey Cup will be watched by millions of fans across Canada on CBC and RDS and in more than 160 countries around the globe.
