CFL names players of the week
Published on October 27, 2004 under Canadian Football League (CFL) News Release
Offensive Player of the Week
WR â Craig Yeast #5
Hamilton Tiger-Cats
Highlights
Yeast had three (3) touchdown receptions â 75, 88 and 15 yards. He had a total of 225 yards with nine (9) receptions, averaging 25 yards a catch.
Game Notes:
Yeast enjoyed a career performance, unfortunately in a losing cause. He showed the uncanny ability to find the open seams, resulting in two long touchdowns. His first touchdown of 15 yards showed determination as he held onto the ball while being hit with an explosive tackle by a veteran Argo defender.
Yeast is a budding CFL star receiver.
1st Runner Up: Jason Maas #12, Edmonton Eskimos
2nd Runner Up: Jason Clermont #82, BC Lions
Judge: Bob Krouse
Defensive Player of the Week
LB â Michael O'Shea #50
Toronto Argonauts
Highlights
O'Shea had seven (7) tackles, two (2) forced fumbles and one (1) interception which he returned 25 yards.
Game Notes:
O'Shea was instrumental in helping the Argos defence hold the League's best running back to 54 rushing yards and his aggressive tackling resulted in fumbles. O'Shea was not one dimensional; his ability to read pass patterns netted him his 25-yard interception return.
O'Shea is a wily veteran.
1st Runner Up: Milo Lewis #25, Calgary Stampeders
2nd Runner Up: Donny Brady #26, Edmonton Eskimos
Judge: Bob Krouse
Lineman of the Week
DE â Rahim Abdullah #90
Edmonton Eskimos
Highlights
Abdullah had a tackle, a pass knockdown and an interception.
Game Notes:
Abdullah's quickness, agility and long arms proved to be an effective combination. As he came off the edge, seeing the quarterback's arm cocked to pass, he would throw up his long arms. As the ball was released, he would jump straight up. Twice he had contact with the ball, the first time knocking down it down and the second holding on to the ball for an interception.
Abdullah's performance was instrumental in the Eskimos' win.
1st Runner Up: Tim Cheatwood #49, Hamilton Tiger-Cats
2nd Runner Up: Demetrious Maxie #91, Calgary Stampeders
Judge: Bob Krouse
Special Teams Player of the Week
WR â Bashir Levingston #23
Toronto Argonauts
Highlights
Levingston had two (2) punt returns for 15 yards, a kickoff return for 97 yards and a touchdown, as well as a missed field goal return for 115 yards and a touchdown. His total was 227 yards and two (2) touchdowns.
Game Notes:
Pivotal games require big time players to step forward. Bashir Levingston definitely fits that category. He set the pace on the first play of the game by returning the opening kickoff 97 yards for a touchdown. Not satisfied with this spectacular play, he proceeded to return a missed field goal 115 yards for a touchdown.
An unbelievable performance!
1st Runner Up: Raymonn Adams #27, Ottawa Renegades
2nd Runner Up: Chris Hardy #8, Toronto Argonauts
Judge: Bob Krouse
