El Paso Diablos News Release

Greg Wiltshire threw a complete game shut-out as the El Paso Diablos won their seventh straight game, 1-0 over the Pensacola Pelicans on Tuesday night from Pelican Park.

Greg Wiltshire was in a little jam early on in the bottom of the first. He had runners on the corners with just one out, but he induced a ground ball double play off the bat of Marcos Rodriguez to escape the jam.

The Diablos broke the scoring drought in the top of the fifth inning. Jordan Belcher picked up a one out single and then advanced to third base on a Kory Drew single that shot through the left side. Jorge Alvarez extended his hitting streak to 11 games with an RBI single which scored Jordan Belcher for the 1-0 lead.

El Paso threatened again the very next inning. Carl Schaefer the new pitcher allowed a lead off double from Walter Olmstead and then a line drive single from Matt Kent to put runners on the corners. However, Schaeffer struck out Logan Wood and then induced a 1-6-3 double play off the bat of Evan Conley to avoid trouble.

Greg Wiltshire hit the lead off batter Trino Aguilar in the bottom of the seventh. The next batter Chris Reynolds then squared to bunt and tapped it back to the mound and Wiltshire fired a perfect strike to second base to retire the lead runner. Wiltshire promptly followed with a 5-4-3 double play induced off the bat of Cesar Aranguren.

Greg Wiltshire sealed the shutout with a 1-2-3 ninth inning. The final out was recorded as the leagues leading hitter Marcos Rodriguez grounded out to the short stop Albenis Machado.

Greg Wiltshire (3-0) threw the full nine innings, allowing no runs on three hits with no walks, one hits batsmen and four strikeouts.

Colin Young (0-2) gets the hard luck loss as he threw five innings of one run baseball and yielded six hits with one walk and four strikeout.

The Pensacola Pelicans bullpen threw three innings of shut out baseball.

The Diablos will take on Pensacola in game two of the three game set on Wednesday night at 5:35 PM (MST). Josh Neitz will throw against Matt Creighton in the affair. The game will be broadcast on 1380 ESPN Radio and www.diablos.com with Jon Barr on the call.
