Sioux City Explorers News Release
SIOUX CITY, IA - Even though Monday was an off day, the Explorers made a number of moves and announced those moves today. Highlighting the transactions includes the signing of Sioux City native Dustin Jones to an American Association contract. In addition to signing Jones, the X's have signed RHP Aaron Wilson, traded OF Brendan O'Donnell to Evansville of the Frontier League for RHP Jon Koch, traded LHP Aaron Marsden to Fort Worth for a player to be named later, and released RHP Javier Fiallo.
Jones recently finished his senior season at Wayne State College and was named to the Daktronics All-Central Region First Team by hitting .415 with 9 homeruns and 46 RBI's. Jones is a graduate of Bishop Heelan High School in Sioux City, IA.
Wilson signs with the X's after pitching in the Golden League the past two seasons. In 2005, he posted a 7-3 record with a 3.58 earned run average in 18 starts. Prior to that, Aaron split the 2004 season with the Philadelphia Phillies New York Penn League team and South Atlantic League teams. He has a career 3.94 earned run average. He is expected to replace Marsden in the starting rotation as the team's fifth starter.
Koch reunites with manager Ed Nottle after playing with him in 2004 and 2005 in Brockton of the Can-Am League. He has primarily been used as a relief pitcher throughout his career but has started 12 games. In 2006, Jon served as the closer for Brockton and went 4-2 with an era of 4.05 while also recording 14 saves.
