Greenway Wins It in Overtime

J.D. Greenway played overtime hero for the Dubuque Fighting Saints as they escaped the Central Illinois Flying Aces with a 4-3 victory. After Greenway took two penalties late in the game, he redeemed himself in a big way, sending nearly 2,000 fans in attendance home happy. Central Illinois scored two in the last two minutes to send the game to overtime and secure a hard fought point.

-For the better part of the last month, Greenway has been a monster for Dubuque. He has quickly learned how to use his reach, size and speed to create chance after chance for the Fighting Saints. Greenway now has three goals this season after his overtime winner.

-Willie Knierim continues to dominate at home for the Fighting Saints. Coming in to the game, Knierim had six points in three home games. He continued his two point per game stretch at Mystique with a goal and an assist tonight.

-Dubuque won just their second game of the season when taking five or more penalties. The Saints were 1-5 heading in to the game with five or more minors. Dubuque took six in tonight's game but were able to get the win despite the fact they found themselves in the box often.

-Verners Egle got in to the first scrap for the Fighting Saints this season. He went toe to toe with Chaseton Sare midway through the third period. Egle, not necessarily the person you would expect to throw them, showed up in the spirited bout.

-Aaron Randazzo picked up another victory in back to back starts. Randazzo also won a 4-3 decision against Waterloo last weekend. The Saints netminder stopped 20 pucks in tonight's win after stopping 30 in the win over Waterloo last weekend.

-Central Illinois showed why they have had success this season with an offensive flurry to end the third period. They took advantage of two penalties late in the third to tie things up after being down 3-1 with under three minutes to play. CI is one of the highest scoring teams in the USHL this season and Dubuque kept them in check for 58 minutes tonight.

-With the game going to overtime, Central Illinois was able to stay even with Dubuque in the standings. The Flying Aces and Fighting Saints have 16 points apiece and are tied for second in the Eastern Conference.

-It won't take long for Dubuque and CI to meet again. In fact, the two will do so tomorrow night. Dubuque will make the three hour trip to Bloomington, Illinois for the second half of the home and home.
