Central Illinois Flying Aces News Release
DUBUQUE, Iowa - The Flying Aces came back to force overtime with two late goals, but fell short to the Dubuque Fighting Saints in overtime, 4-3.
The Fighting Saints got on the board at 7:53 in the first when Matias Maccelli wristed the puck into the net from the left circle after a cross-ice pass.
At 13:03 in the first, Dubuque won a board battle and Willie Knierim controlled a net-front pass to score on the backhand to make it 2-0.
The Flying Aces scored at 8:19 in the second. Philip Elgestål (Gotenburg, Swe.) successfully backchecked to separate the Dubuque player from the puck. Tate Singleton (West Lebanon, NH) picked up the loose puck and passed to Ryan Siedem (Madison, NJ) at the top of the zone. Siedem wristed the puck and Singleton tipped the puck from the mid-slot to get the Aces within one.
After sustained zone pressure, Dubuque scored after a slot pass to Logan Pietila at 14:08 in the second to restore their two-goal lead.
Siedem passed to Jeremy Davidson (Schoolcraft, Mich.) on the power play late in the third. Davidson's shot was blocked and took a long bounce to Cal Kiefiuk (Macomb, Mich.) who one-timed the puck from the right circle into the net at 17:32 in the third.
At 19:39 in the third, Central Illinois was back on the power play and had their goalie pulled for a two-man advantage. Kiefiuk sent a spin-around pass from the goal line towards the net and Davidson poked the puck past the goaltender to tie the game.
J.D. Greenway one-timed the puck to win the game for Dubuque at 2:39 in overtime on the power play.
The Flying Aces next play tomorrow in the second night of a home-and-home against the Fighting Saints for Salute to Service Night. Sunday afternoon, Central Illinois concludes their three-game weekend with a game against the top-ranked Muskegon Lumberjacks at 4 p.m. at Grossinger Motors Arena. The Flying Aces host Youngstown in a two-game home-stand on Friday, November 16th, and Saturday, November 17th at 7 p.m.
