Greenville, S.C. - Christian Koss, Dom D'Alessandro and Ricardo Cubillan each drove in two runs while Chase Shugart fired 5.0 innings of two-run ball to win game six over Aberdeen, 8-2, Sunday afternoon at Fluor Field.
With the win, the two teams split the six-game set.
The Dive's offense exploded for 13 hits, two doubles and a homer. All nine batters registered a hit. Koss led the way with a two-run homer and one walk. Cam Cannon had a team-high three hits, all singles. Cubillan and Wil Dalton each tallied two hits. Dalton also drove in one run.
Chase Shugart earned the win. He tossed 5.0 innings and allowed two runs on seven hits, two walks and two homers with four strikeouts.
Easton Lucas was charged with the loss after allowing four runs over his 1.0 inning of work.
The Drive plated the first run of the game in the third inning. Dalton led off the frame with a double down the left field line. Two batters later, Cubillan singled to left to drive in Dalton and take a 1-0 lead.
Aberdeen quickly responded in the fourth inning with a solo homer from Shayne Fontana and Christopher Burgess to take a 2-1 lead.
However, in the bottom of the fifth frame, Greenville (31-29) scored four runs to take 5-2 lead. Tyler Dearden led off the frame with a walk. After a pop out, Dalton walked to put runners at first and second. Then with two outs, Cubillan collected his second RBI single of the game. That brought up Koss who hit a two-run homer to left that hit the light tower beyond the Green Monster.
Three more runs came across in the Drive's next at-bat, all with two outs. Dearden singled and got to second on a single by Jaxx Groshans, his first in a Drive uniform. Dalton then lined an RBI single to left for the first run of the frame. The following batter, D'Alessandro scorched a ball to center field that one-hoped the wall for a two-run double and secure an 8-2 lead.
After an off-day Monday, the Drive will travel to Asheville to begin a six-game series with the Tourists, affiliate of the Houston Astros, Tuesday at 6:35.
