Boomstick Breaux Homers Twice, Renegades Clinch Series Win

July 11, 2021 - South Atlantic League (SAL)
Hudson Valley Renegades News Release

The Hudson Valley Renegades put on a clinic as they swept a doubleheader against the Brooklyn Cyclones on Saturday, winning 7-1 and 5-0.

The Gades threw the second no-hitter in team history in game two -- albeit a seven-inning one -- and the bat of Josh Breaux wowed over 3,100 fans at Dutchess Stadium.

In the first game, the Renegades scored four in the bottom of the first inning powered by an Ezequiel Duran home run. They added more run support as the game continued for Mitch Spence, who had one of his best outing of the year.

Spence (3-1) went six innings, striking out eight and allowing only three hits and one run.

Nelson Alvarez came on in the seventh inning to close the game out in a non save situation. He struck out two and allowed a walk but ultimately ended the game in victorious fashion.

With a win in the first game of the doubleheader, the Renegades clinched the series victory.

In game two, the Renegades threw seven innings of hitless baseball, but somehow the story of the night was Josh Breaux.

Breaux hit three home runs in three at-bats and drove in all five runs in the game.

Sean Boyle made his first appearance as a Renegade, and it went well, as he tossed four innings of scoreless and hitless ball, striking out three and walking three. Nick Ernst, who got the win (4-0), threw two innings and struck out four.

Derek Craft came in to close out the game, and he struck out one to finish the no-hitter. Juan Uriarte sent a fly ball to rightfield that Frederick Cuevas squeezed to set off a happy, but businesslike, celebration.

It's the first no-hitter since 2000 when Doug Waechter no-hit the Pittsfield Mets.

The Renegades are back in action at 4:30 tomorrow for the series finale as they look to sweep the Cyclones before hitting the road for two weeks.

Per the State of New York, the Renegades are now open at 100% capacity. Tickets continue to be a tremendous value starting as low as $6. Visit HVRenegades.com for ticket information and so much more.

Renegades are hosting an Independence Day Weekend Fireworks Spectacular on July 3rd. We will show the film National Treasure prior to the Fireworks. Visit HVRenegades.com for more info.
