Greensboro Grasshoppers News Release
Hagerstown, MD: The Hagerstown Suns were shutout 1-0 by the Greensboro Grasshoppers on Sunday night.
Greensboro's (25-23) lone run came in on a wild pitch by Zac Clements (0-2) in the fifth inning. Greg Burns had tripled to start the inning, and came home to score when a knuckleball from Clements bounced in the dirt and into the Suns duggout off catcher Rafael Arroyo. Burns held up and wasn't going to score until the ball dribbled into the Suns duggout and home plate umpire Mike Brundage awarded Burns home for the only run of the game for either team. Burns also had a double and a walk.
This was the second shutout of the series for the Greensboro pitching staff, and this time it took five pitchers to do it. Spot starter Rafael Galbizo (4-5) went the first five to pick up the win, and Brad Stone the next two. Blake Jones, Travis Talbott, and Mauro Zarate combined to go the eighth and ninth scoreless. Zarate earned up his seventh save of the year, and second in three days when he threw a 1-2-3 ninth.
The Suns (20-29) have lost for the 10th time in 13 games and fell to 48-71 overall this year. They are on pace to have the second most losses in the franchises' 26 year history. The lone bright spot offensively was Rafael Arroyo who went 2-3 with a double. Arroyo also threw out three baserunners trying to steal to take over the league lead with a 53% ratio of throwing out runners this year.
The Suns are off tomorrow and will embark on a 13 day, 14 game road trip starting Tuesday at Lakewood at 7:05pm. Bobby Parnell goes for the Suns against the Blueclaws who have the best pitching staff in the league, and just no-hit the Lexington Legends on Sunday night. Greensboro hosts the Legends starting Tuesday at First Horizon Park for four games.
