SAVANNAH, Ga. - The Sand Gnats fell into an early 3-0 hole and never recovered in a 3-2 loss to the Asheville Tourists Sunday afternoon at Historic Grayson Stadium. The loss was Savannah's 10th in its last 11 games.

Carlos Martinez pitched well in the start, giving up three runs on five hits in seven innings. Savannah's bullpen was nearly perfect in two frames as Gene Yost recorded one walk and a strikeout and David Trahan threw a spotless ninth.

Trailing 3-0 entering the bottom of the second, the Gnats got one run back when Scott Schade worked a one-out walk and scored from third on Logan Sorensen's sacrifice fly. Savannah made the game a one-run affair in the fifth when Reggie Fitzpatrick reached on a leadoff single and scored on a base-hit by Rob Sandora.

The Tourists scored one run in the first and two in the second to take the early lead, highlighted by a two-run homer off the bat of Christopher Cook with two outs in the second.

Savannah is next in action Monday at 7:05 p.m. as it heads to Augusta for a four-game series followed by a four-game set in Charleston. The Sand Gnats return to Grayson Stadium Thursday, August 24, for their last homestand of the season with four games each against Rome and Charleston.
