GreenJackets sting Braves to split series

Rome, GA - The Augusta GreenJackets defeated the Rome Braves Sunday afternoon 10-8 before 2,685 fans at State Mutual Stadium to split the four game series.

The GreenJackets put four runs on the board in the second inning. Barry Gunther, Pablo Sandoval, and Anthony Contreras each singled followed by a run scoring base hit by Kyle Haines. Antoan Richardson then walked with the bases loaded to score Sandoval. Contreras later scored on a ground out and Haines scored on a sacrifice fly by Eugenio Velez. Rome made the score 4-1 in the third on a run scoring hit by Jaime Trejo to score Quentin Davis. Augusta added two unearned runs in the fourth inning for a 6-1 lead.

Rome began their comeback attempt in the bottom of the fourth with three runs highlighted by run scoring singles from Manny Rodriguez and Jose Camarena. Josh Morris scored during the inning thanks to a botched pick off attempt. Rome had narrowed the lead to 6-4. Jamie Romak got the Braves to within one run in the fifth inning with a run scoring double to make the score 6-5..

For the next two innings, the Braves and GreenJackets exchanged runs and going into the top of the ninth Augusta held an 8-7 advantage. The GreenJackets added two runs in the ninth and Rome answered with one run in the bottom of the inning on a solo home run from Jamie Romak (14). Augusta held on for the 10-8 victory. Along with the 18 total runs scored, there were a total of 31 hits in the game.

Augusta starter Dave McKae gets the win (6-2) and Rome's Jairo Cuevas was the loser (6-10). Taylor Wilding gets the save (2) for the GreenJackets.
