Greensboro Swarm News Release
GREENSBORO, N.C. - Kobi Simmons and Mark Williams recorded another pair of double-doubles in the second game of the 2022-23 season. However, it was not enough for the Greensboro Swarm, the NBA G League affiliate of the Charlotte Hornets, who fell 112-104 at home on Saturday at the Novant Health Fieldhouse to the Delaware Blue Coats (76ers affiliate).
The Blue Coats (1-1) jumped to an early lead in the contest and commanded a 16-point lead to end the opening period. Despite trailing, the Swarm rallied behind Simmons' hot hand, which saw him earn 11 points from the field in the second quarter and earned Greensboro a lead into the halftime break. Simmons ended the contest with 28 points and a team-high 10 assists in 40 minutes.
The Swarm (1-1) saw Williams, on assignment from the Hornets, have another stand-out night with 22 points and a game-high 16 rebounds. Greensboro also received a boost from its bench in the form of Ty-Shon Alexander, who pieced together his second-straight game with 20 or more points in 31 minutes.
In a back-and-forth third quarter, Delaware entered the final frame with the lead and carried it to the end. The Blue Coats were led by Michael Foster Jr., who scored 26 points, grabbed nine rebounds and dished out four assists. Delaware had an additional five players with double-digit point performances, Justin Smith (16), Julian Champagnie (15), Skylar Mays (15), Mac McClung (12) and Jaden Springer (12).
The Greensboro Swarm will be back in action at the Novant Health Fieldhouse on Friday, November 11, against the College Park Skyhawks, at 7:00 p.m. ET.
