August 25, 2008 - South Atlantic League (SAL1)
Augusta GreenJackets News Release
Augusta, GA - The regular season is winding down for the Augusta GreenJackets, but that does not mean the baseball season is coming to an end. The GreenJackets are putting playoff tickets on sale today with the GreenJackets holding a five game lead in the Southern Division.
"It's always exciting anytime playoff baseball comes around and we have been real fortunate here in Augusta to put playoff tickets on sale for a third straight year," GreenJackets General Manager Nick Brown said. "We are expecting a good turnout this year because we included playoff tickets when we sold our season ticket packages for the 2008 season."
This season seat holders had first right to tickets but today the GreenJackets opened up ticket sales to the general public. Prices for the 2008 South Atlantic League Playoffs begin at just $8 for general admission seats. Reserved seats are $9 and box seats are $12. All children 3-12 get in for $7 while children under three cost $1.
Tickets can be purchased three different ways, by phone, internet or in person at the box office. The box office is open 9:00 a.m. until 4:00 p.m. and the phone number is 706-922-WINS. Tickets can also be purchased online at www.greenjacketsbaseball.com
The GreenJackets will host Game 1 of the South Atlantic League Southern Division Series at Lake Olmstead Stadium on Wednesday, September 3. First pitch will be at 7:05 p.m. with gates opening at 6:00 p.m. against the Ashville Tourists, SAL affiliate of the Colorado Rockies. The series is a best of three series with Game 2 and Game 3 in Asheville, NC.
Should the GreenJackets advance to the SAL Championship Series, Augusta would host Game 1 and Game 2 of the best of five series. Those dates are Monday, September 8 and Tuesday, September 9. Both games will start at 7:05 p.m. with gates opening at 6:00 p.m.
Augusta holds a 5.0 game lead over the Columbus Catfish in the Southern Division with seven games to be played. Columbus has eight games left on the schedule. The GreenJackets wrap up the regular season home schedule with a three game series against the Hickory Crawdads beginning on Wednesday, August 27. All three games will be at 7:05 p.m. and include Baseball Bingo on Wednesday, Thirsty Thursday and then Fan Appreciation Night on Friday.
The GreenJackets finish the regular season with a three game series in Asheville, NC against the Tourists. The GreenJackets currently hold the second best winning percentage (82-49, .626) in all of Minor League Baseball among all full season teams. Augusta's pitching staff also has a 2.97 ERA, the lowest in all of MiLB.
Augusta is looking to make the post-season for a third straight year since being affiliated with the San Francisco Giants. Augusta has captured one South Atlantic League Southern Division Title and made one appearance to the SAL Championship series in the past three seasons. Augusta's last SAL Championship came in 1999.
The GreenJackets are celebrating their 20th Anniversary this season of baseball returning to Augusta. For information on tickets and all the promotions scheduled for this season call the GreenJackets at 706-922-WINS or visit www.greenjacketsbaseball.com.
