Augusta GreenJackets News Release

Savannah, GA - The Savannah Sand Gnats jumped out to a big lead as a result of a five-run third inning and never looked back en route to a 7-1 win over the Augusta GreenJackets on Saturday night.

Leading 1-0 on a second-inning sacrifice fly, Savannah tagged GreenJackets starter Adalberto Mejia (0-1) for five consecutive one-out hits in the third, including Brian Harrison's RBI double and Aderlin Rodriguez's three-run home run down the left field line. An Augusta error later in the frame allowed a fifth run to score in the inning and extended the Gnats edge to 6-0.

The GreenJackets got their lone run in the sixth on a Kelby Tomlinson RBI groundout, but Savannah added another in the seventh on Cam Maron's RBI single to push their lead to 7-1. The Sand Gnats held the GreenJackets to two hits in the final four innings to close their second win of the season.

Mejia allowed six runs - all earned - in his highly-anticipated stateside debut on six hits, walking none and striking out none. Alex Panteliodis (1-0) got the win for Savannah in his professional debut. The Florida Gator allowed just an unearned run on four hits and a walk while striking out three.

The GreenJackets bullpen looked sharp as Kevin Couture, Keith Bilodeau and Derek Law limited the Gnats to a run in 5.1 innings to finish the game.

Augusta looks for the series split tomorrow as Kyle Crick makes his season debut to face Domingo Tapia in a matchup of righties. First pitch from Savannah comes at 2:05 p.m. with radio pregame coverage beginning at 1:50 p.m. on ESPN Radio 1340 AM and online at www.greenjacketsbaseball.com

The GreenJackets return home for their home opener next Thursday at 7:35 p.m. against the Sand Gnats. Single-game tickets for any GreenJackets home game are currently available by calling the GreenJackets front office at 706-922-WINS and online at www.greenjacketsbaseball.com.
