Kannapolis Cannon Ballers News Release
KANNAPOLIS, N.C. - The Kannapolis Intimidators offense stalled on Saturday night as the Hickory Crawdads won the second game of a doubleheader, 4-2 (7 inn.), to sweep the day at CMC- NorthEast Stadium. Hickory scored all four runs in the fifth inning of reliever Stew Brase (0-1) while the Crawdads' starting pitcher Jerad Eickhoff limited Kannapolis to just two base-runners over the first five innings.
Eickhoff (1-) earned the win, allowing no runs, one hit, one walk and seven strikeouts before giving way to Nick McBride. The Intimidators loaded the bases against McBride with one out in the bottom of the seventh inning, bringing the tying run to the plate. Joe De Pinto scored from third on a wild pitch, and Mark Haddow's RBI-groundout pulled Kannapolis within two, but Keenyn Walker struck out to end the game and the comeback bid.
The Crawdads benefitted from a pair of hugging-the-line doubles in the fifth inning. Kellin Deglan doubled down the first base line to lead off the inning, and Hanser Alberto brought him home when he laced a shot between third baseman Rangel Ravelo and the foul line. Luis Sardins singled hom Alberto and scored on Zach Cone's single to right field. Rougned Odor, who walked, crossed the plate on a Trever Adams RBI-groundout to give Hickory a 4-0 lead.
Prior to scoring in the final frame Saturday night, Kannapolis was scoreless over its last 20 innings, spanning back to the second inning in Friday's season-opener. Last season, the Intimidators began the season with 24 consecutive scoreless innings before turning into one of the top offenses in the South Atlantic League.
The Intimidators will try to avoid a series sweep tomorrow. The two teams wrap up this season-opening series on Sunday at 3:05 p.m. The Intimidators will host a pre-game Easter Egg Hunt at 2:30 p.m. with 7,000 eggs and prizes scattered across the outfield.
