GreenJackets Lose in Extras

Augusta GreenJackets News Release
Columbia, SC: The Augusta GreenJackets, South Atlantic League affiliate of San Francisco Giants, lost 2-1 to the Columbia Fireflies in the 10th inning Saturday night.
It was another game where the GreenJackets struggled at the plate, although they had a promising start. In the top of the first inning, Manuel Geraldo singled home Orlando Garcia to give the GreenJackets a 1-0 lead. This is the second consecutive game the GreenJackets have been held to one run.
The Fireflies would tie the game at one in the bottom of the fifth, when Ali Sanchez doubled to center field to score Blake Tiberi. Then in extras, with the bases loaded and only one out, a battle broke out between Olbis Parra on the mound and Quinn Brodey at the plate. After a 10 pitch at bat and numerous foul balls by Brodey to stay alive, the winning run was walked in. The GreenJackets are now 0-3 in extra inning games this season.
On the mound for the GreenJackets, starting pitcher Jose Marte had another strong outing. He went 4 2/3 innings giving up six hits and one run. Out of the bullpen in his Augusta debuted was Greg Jacknewitz. He was impressive going four scoreless inning giving up six hits and striking out three Fireflies.
The GreenJackets are now a 1.5 back of the Rome Braves in the Southern Division. First pitch in the series finale in Columbia will be at 2:00 pm tomorrow.
