Greenville Drive News Release
Asheville, NC - The Greenville Drive jumped out to a 3-1 lead but lost 4-3 Friday night to the Augusta Green Jackets. The loss dropped the Drive to 11-17 on the season while the Green Jackets improved to 23-6.
After Augusta scored one in the top of the third, Greenville answered with three in the bottom of the inning on three hits and one costly error. The big hit was a Manny Arambarris double to score Carlos Fernandez and Pedro Vasquez, who both singled to lead off the inning. Jon Still would later hit an RBI groundout to score Kristopher Negron.
Leading 3-1 going into the seventh, Drive starter Brian Steinocher was cruising along while having his best pitching performance of the season. However, a crucial error by Jason Place on a Mike McBryde fly ball led to Steinocher being replaced by reliever T.J. Large. Unfortunately, Large was not successful as he gave up two earned runs on three hits in his one inning of work and surrendered the lead for Greenville.
The Drive could not rally from the 4-3 turnaround and came out on the losing end again to the Green Jackets who are now 4-1 against the Drive this season. Arambarris went 1-4 with a double and two RBI to lead the Drive offensively. Ryan Rohlinger went 2-4 with two RBI to lead the Augusta offense.
Drive starter Brian Steinocher (0-4) pitched his best outing of the season but could not pick up his first win after lasting 6.0 innings while allowing one earned run on three hits and two strikeouts. Reliever T.J. Large had a rough outing surrendering the loss and falling to 0-2 on the season.
Left-hander Clayton Tanner earned a no-decision and pitched 4.0 innings allowing three runs, one earned, on four hits and three walks while striking out six for Augusta. Reliever Henry Sosa (2-0) was unstoppable for Augusta as he allowed one hit and two walks while striking out seven Drive batters and earned the win. Juan Trinidad pitched a perfect ninth to earn his second save.
The Drive will play game two of the three game series with the Green Jackets Saturday night. Greenville will be sending right-hander Jordan Craft to the hill and Asheville will counter with right-hander Kevin Pucetas as first pitch is scheduled for 7:05.
