June 24, 2011 - Indoor Football League (IFL)
Green Bay Blizzard News Release
The Indoor Football League has announced the top players across the league for the 2011 campaign. The Green Bay Blizzard have four players that garnered honors across the league, as voted by the coaches: BJ Hill, First Team Special Teams Kick Returner; Arkeith Brown, First Team Defensive Back; James McClinton, Second Team Defensive Line; and Josh Shene, Second Team Special Teams.
BJ Hill has been a big factor in all Blizzard games, whether he receives the ball or not on kickoffs. Hill has 6 total returns for touchdowns, 4 kickoffs and 2 missed field goal returns. His highlight game came in the Green Bay home opener, in which Hill returned two kicks and two missed field goals for scores vs. Bloomington on 3/18. After that game, teams opted to kick away from Hill, setting up the offense with great field position. BJ was also a difference maker on defense and offense, making him a threat to score every time he touched the ball. Defensively, Hill recorded 63 total tackles, seven interceptions (one returned for touchdown), 11 pass breakups, and one fumble returned for a touchdown. On offense, he ran the ball five times with two touchdowns and caught four passes.
In his first year playing indoor football, Arkeith Brown has been in the right place at the right time all year long. Brown has 12 interceptions on the year, tying him for first in the IFL, while also adding 23 pass breakups, one forced fumble and 67 total tackles. His 12 interceptions (14 game season) also ties a single season Blizzard record set by Rusty Midlam in the 2008 campaign (16 game season), and only falls one short of the career interception record of 13, also held by Midlam.
James McClinton is no stranger to being respected by the league and his peers. As a Kansas University product, McClinton won Big XII Defensive Lineman of the Year in 2007. In 2010 with the Blizzard, McClinton posted some solid numbers with 32 total tackles and 7 sacks. This year, James improved his stock tremendously by logging 42 total tackles, 10.5 sacks and 1 forced fumble for a touchdown. His 17.5 total sacks with the Blizzard places him 2 behind the career record set by Joe Sykes with 19.5, all posted in 2008.
Josh Shene has forever placed his name in Green Bay Blizzard history, setting numerous records this season. Currently, Josh has 31 made field goals in 2011, surpassing the single season mark set by Tino Amancio in 2010. He also kicked 6 field goals in a loss at Sioux Falls on May 15th, passing Greg Krauss for most field goals in one game. Greg kicked 4 in one game in May of 2003.Shene=EF=BF1/2s final numbers for the year go as follows: 31 of 51 field goals =EF=BF1/2 69 of 84 extra points =EF=BF1/2 longest field goal of 55 yards.
