Great Weekend at the Brandt Centre

The Regina Pats enter the weekend in top spot in the Eastern Division, and will host a pair of tough Central Division club. Saturday, the Calgary Hitmen come to town, while Sunday will see Emerson Etem and the Central Division's top team, the Medicine Hat Tigers.

This is the 3rd time this season that the Pats and the Hitmen face each other. The road team has had all the success with the Pats winning on October 12th in Calgary and the Hitmen winning at the Brandt Centre on October 20th.

Who to look for:

LW - Calder Brooks

The 17 year old rookie is on a 3 game point streak heading into the weekend. The former Regina Pat Canadian hails from Emerald Park and was an 8th round pick of the Hitmen in the 2009 WHL Bantam Draft.

G - Chris Driedger

Since taking over the starting reigns of the Calgary Hitmen, this 17 year old native of Winnipeg is 5-3-0-1 and has a fantastic save percentage of .919. Chris was the 9th ranked goaltender in the recent ISS Scouting Report.

D - Collin Bowman

A familiar face to Pats fans, as this former Moose Jaw Warrior was acquired by the Hitmen last week along with Joey Kornelson. The Littleton, CO native was the top scoring defenceman with the Warriors in 2010-11.

The Pats won the first meeting of the season on September28 at the Medicine Hat Arena. It was the Pats first win in the "Gas City" since January 25th of 2008.

Who to look for:

RW - Emerson Etem

The WHL Player of the Month has had a torrid start to the 2011-12 season. He has 22 goals in his first 16 games and is averaging over 2 points a game.

G - Tyler Bunz

The 5th round pick of the Edmonton Oilers in the 2010 NHL Entry Draft is in his 4th full season with the Tigers. Bunz was just named the WHL and Vaughn CHL goalie of the week.

C - Hunter Shinkaruk

Hunter is in his second season in the WHL and is currently 2nd on the Tigers in scoring. He would be one of the top ranked WHL forward in the upcoming NHL Entry Draft, but he has a late birthday and won't be eligible till the 2013 draft.

Pats Pieces:

The blue and white head into the weekend one point up in the race for first in the Eastern Division. The Pats are currently in the middle of a 4 game home stand that will end next Thursday night as the Pats host the Moose Jaw Warriors. 24 hours later, the Pats and Warriors will play again at Mosaic Place. From there, it will be the Pats annual trip out west beginning on November 19th in Spokane.

As the Weal Turns:

The WHL All-Star is having yet another great season. He has points in all but one game this season and is currently tied for 6th in WHL scoring and is third in the league in assists.

The Wall of Hewitt:

Matt Hewitt has had a spectacular start to the season. He is currently tied for 1st in the WHL in wins (11), 5th in goals against average (2.20) and 6th in save percentage (.925). He is one win away from matching his win total of last season.

Super Series Luncheon:

The Subway Super Series is set for the Brandt Centre ice on Wednesday, November 16th, and now fans will get a chance to have lunch with the WHL All-Stars. The Super Series Luncheon will be on Tuesday, November 15th at noon at the Hotel Saskatchewan Radisson Plaza. Guest speakers will be former Pats Captain, as well as Oilers and Flyers captain Jason Smith and Hockey Night in Canada analyst Kelly Hrudey. Tables of eight for the luncheon (here you get to dine with one of the All-Stars) are $500 and it also includes 10 tickets to the Subway Super Series game the next night.
