Great Falls Voyagers News Release
GREAT FALLS, Mont. - The Great Falls Voyagers picked up their second shutout of the 2014 Pioneer League season Friday night, blanking the Ogden Raptors 1-0 at Centene Stadium.
The lone run of the ballgame came right away for the Voyagers (15-10) as Chevy Clarke delivered his second lead-off homer of the season. The blast was Clarke's fourth long ball of the season, tying him with Jackson Laumann for the team lead.
The rest of the night belonged to the Great Falls pitching staff, which was excellent on the night. It all started with Brandon Brennan who surrendered just two hits to Ogden (8-17) over five scoreless innings. The righty retired the side in order in the first, then induced a double play in each of his next four frames of work.
Behind Brennan, the bullpen trio of Mike Blanke, Devon Davis, and Jon Bengard finished what the righty started. Blanke worked a scoreless sixth, Davis put up zeroes in the seventh and eighth, and Bengard recorded the final three outs to record his league-leading fifth save.
Both teams managed just five hits on the night but Jake Peter had one of them for Great Falls, extending his team-high hitting streak to 12 games with a first inning single.
The shutout gives the Great Falls staff two on the season, making them the only Pioneer League team to have more than one thus far in 2014. The Voyagers also claim the series with Friday's win, taking three out of four over the Raptors to start their seven-game homestand.
The Voyagers continue their seven-game homestand Saturday night at Centene Stadium as they welcome the Idaho Falls Chukars to town to begin a three-game series. Great Falls will send righty Zach Thompson (0-1, 2.45) to the mound, while Idaho Fallss will counter with a righty of their own, Zach Lovvorn (2-1, 4.87). First pitch is set for 7:00 and coverage will begin at 6:45 on 1400 AM KXGF and gfvoyagers.com.
