BROCKTON - The Brockton Rox dropped their first game to the Can Am Grays, 6-4, Sunday night. It put an end to a six-game winning streak against the Grays this season.
The Rox took the early lead with three runs in the top of the first inning, taking advantage of two Grays' errors.
Brockton (17-19) extended the lead to 4-1 in the second inning when Mike Scanzano scored from third on a Brian Jones groundout. The Rox loaded the bases in the inning, but couldn't get any more runs across the plate.
In the bottom of the second, the traveling Grays (18-17) posted three runs on four hits and a Rox error. The Grays took the lead in the third inning on Willie King's RBI double to right field. Their final run came on a delayed double steal during which the Rox shortstop, Saul Bustos, uncorked a wild throw to the plate.
Kevin Beavers (1-2) lasted just three innings in taking the loss. He gave up eight hits and a walk while striking out two. Only four the runs were earned against the Rox southpaw.
Lincoln Mincks battled through six innings to post his fourth win of the season. The Grays bullpen did not allow a hit or a run in closing out the win. Randy Rapp notched his fifth save.
The Rox and Grays wrap up the series on Monday in a 1:05 p.m. game. Dennis "Oil Can" Boyd starts for the Rox. Brad Esarey takes the ball for the Grays.
