New Jersey Cardinals News Release
This evening at Skylands Park in Augusta, New Jersey, the New Jersey Cardinals (St. Louis Cardinals) were defeated by the Brooklyn Cyclones (New York Mets) 4-0 behind a big 3 run 1st inning. New Jersey drops to 5-8, while the win moves the Cyclones to 9-4. Both starting pitchers factored into the decision as Jorge Reyes (1-1) picked up the win for Brooklyn and Mitchell Boggs (0-1) took the loss for the Cards.
The Cyclones scored 3 runs in the 1st inning behind clutch hitting and early wildness from Cardinals pitching. Boggs walked the first two men of the game to put himself in a hole before Cyclones DH Caleb Stewart doubled to left to score both runners. One batter later, 1B Josh Peterson added an RBI single to right to score Stewart. Brooklyn struck again in the 2nd inning when C Andrew Butera scored on a 4-6-3 double play with the bases loaded.
The New Jersey bullpen turned in another solid effort tonight as 3 Cardinals pitchers shut down the Cyclones over the final 6 innings. Trey Hearne (3.1 innings), Jessen Grant (2), and Kyle Sadlowski (1) combined to hold Brooklyn to 2 base runners over the after the 3rd inning. First baseman Adam Rodgers led the offense with 2 hits, including a 4th inning double to left field.
The Cardinals will finish their 4 game homestand on Monday, July 4th, at 7:15 PM against Brooklyn. There will be a massive fireworks show following the game sponsored by the Hampton House Bar and Grill and KFCs Kids Eat Free night where the children 15 and under will receive a kids meal from Kentucky Fried Chicken with the presentation of a coupon from the New Jersey Herald.
