El Paso Diablos News Release

Grand Prairie, TX - The Grand Prairie AirHogs beat the Diablos in walk off fashion as a walk off walk would give them a 7-6 win at QuickTrip Park on Friday night. It is just the third win of the second half for the AirHogs but two of those wins are against El Paso.

Grand Prairie opened up the scoring with a run in the first inning, but the Diablos responded the next half inning with a RBI single by Jeff Vincent to tie the game. The AirHogs took another one run lead in the second and once again the Diablos responded with a run the next half inning. Hector Bernal had a lead-off triple and then scored on a passed ball. Grand Prairie took a 4-2 lead in the third but the Diablos were there once again to respond and this time they took the lead. Bernal had a RBI single in the inning while one run also scored on a wild pitch. The game was tied up in the sixth inning on a sacrifice fly but the Diablos immediately took the lead back in the seventh inning on a lead-off home run by Jonathan Reynoso. The AirHogs came right back to tie the game in the bottom of the seventh on a David Espinosa single. In the ninth inning David Whigham would come on but would struggle with his control. Whigham gave up a single to start the inning and then would walk the next two batters to load up the bases before walking Michael Hollimon to bring home the winning run.

El Paso had just seven hits in the entire game. Hector Bernal extended his hit streak to 15 straight games by going 2-4 with a RBI and a triple. It marks the longest hit streak of any El Paso player this season and is also his seventh straight multi-hit game. Mike Provencher went 1-4 to extend his hit streak to 11 straight games while Benji Johnson went 1-4 and has now had hits in eight straight games.

Amad Stephens started and lasted six innings and earned a no decision. He allowed five runs on seven hits and struck out a season high seven. Grand Prairie's Ryne Tacker was beat up as he allowed six runs in six innings on seven hits. Chris Martin came in and shut down the Diablos offense down the stretch as he would pick up the win. Martin (1-0) sat down the last nine batters in order while striking out four.

El Paso heads back to the field for the third game of the series on Saturday night. Shaun Ellis (8-2, 4.52) will toe the rubber for El Paso. Lefthander Daniel Schmidt (2-4, 4.99) will make the start for the AirHogs. Game time is set for 6:05. Fans can listen in by tuning to ESPN 1380 or online at www.diablos.com.
