Grabovski sent back to Hamilton

MONTREAL, QC - Montreal Canadiens General Manager Bob Gainey announced today that forward Mikhail Grabovski has been reassigned to the Hamilton Bulldogs of the American Hockey League. Grabovski will join the team in Winnipeg tonight where the 'Dogs are scheduled to battle the Manitoba Moose on Thursday, January 11th at 8:30 p.m.

Grabovski, 22, was recalled by Montreal on January 5th and played in his first-career NHL game on Saturday, January 6th against the New York Rangers. A native of Potsdam, East Germany, Grabovski appeared in three games in total with the Canadiens during his call-up, going scoreless with five shots on goal.

The 5-foot-11, 183-pound centreman has notched 28 points (10-18-28), 14 penalty minutes and a plus-6 rating in 35 games with the Bulldogs in this his first American Hockey League season. Grabovski was drafted by Montreal in the 5th round, 150th overall, in the 2004 NHL Entry Draft.

In operation since 1936, the American Hockey League is the top development league for all 30 National Hockey League teams. Over 80 percent of NHL players are AHL graduates, and more than 350 AHL players were recalled to the NHL during the 2005-2006 season alone.

The Bulldogs return to action at 8:30 p.m. tomorrow night (Thursday, January 11th) when they take on the Moose at MTS Centre in Manitoba.
