NJ/NY Gotham FC News Release
NEW YORK - NJ/NY Gotham FC today confirmed that Katie Stengel has been acquired on a permanent transfer following her strong offensive production since joining the club on loan from Liverpool FC on July 5. Stengel was transferred for an agreed upon fee, and the forward has signed with Gotham FC through the 2025 season.
"When I came to Gotham FC, I wanted to give everything I had to this temporary opportunity," said Stengel. "I feel incredibly fortunate to continue at a club that is building the foundation of something special through professionalism and an exciting style of play."
Stengel became an immediate impact player on July 9, scoring the game winning goal in her first outing with Gotham FC, when she found the back of the net in the 56th minute of a regular season match against the Portland Thorns. Across all competitions this season, Stengel has scored three goals and appeared in eight games.
"Katie is a dynamic attacking player for us, who can create scoring chances for herself and her teammates due to her quality and work ethic," said Gotham FC Head Coach Juan Carlos Amorós. "She has impressed us from day one and has adapted really well to our style of play. We are excited that she will remain with the club and help Gotham FC to keep growing"
In addition to scoring a goal against Portland, Stengel scored a UKG NWSL Challenge Cup game-winner against the eventual champions, the North Carolina Courage on Aug. 5. She also scored a regular season goal against the San Diego Wave on Aug. 19.
"Katie Stengel has provided another key element to our attack, and we are pleased that she will continue to be a strong contributor to our talented roster of players," said General Manager and Head of Soccer Operations Yael Averbuch West.
Over Stengel's NWSL career to date, she has appeared in 104 games, with 60 starts, 5,562 minutes, 15 goals, and five assists.
Gotham FC will return to action at home on Saturday, Sept. 16 to host the Washington Spirit. For information on tickets, visit GothamFC.com/Tickets.
