Gornick Named Player of the Week

SAN DIEGO — Gulls left-winger Brian Gornick has been named the InGlasCo ECHL Player of the Week for March 29 through April 3. Trevor Koenig was named as a runner-up for the ITECH HOCKEY ECHL Saver of the Week.

Gornick, 24, scored three game-winning goals and had eight points (4g, 4a) last week. He was also a +5, leading the Gulls to a perfect 4-0 week and helping them clinch the Brabham Cup, awarded annually to the regular season points champion in the ECHL.

The 6-foot-5-inch, 210-pound native of St. Paul Minn. started the week Monday, March 29 with an assist in San Diego's 5-1 win at Fresno. On Wednesday, Gornick added an overtime goal and an assist in the Gulls' 2-1 victory against Las Vegas. In Bakersfield on Friday, he scored twice and tallied an assist in a 5-2 Gulls triumph before coming up with another goal and assist in San Diego's 2-1 win against Alaska.

Assigned to the Gulls by the American Hockey League's Cincinnati Mighty Ducks on March 12, Gornick has 24 points (9g, 15a) in 18 games with San Diego. He ended the regular season with a career-high six-game point streak and had 14 points (7g, 7a) in the last eight games.

In 25 games with Cincinnati this season, he had two points (1g, 1a) and 12 penalty minutes. In his rookie season with the Mighty Ducks last season, Gornick notched six points (2g, 4a) and 14 penalty minutes in 54 games. He was a ninth round selection of the Mighty Ducks of Anaheim in the 1999 NHL Entry Draft.

Koenig was 3-0-0 last week for the Blue and Orange with a 1.32 goals-against average and .941 save percentage. Atlantic City's Bujar Amidovski was selected as the ITECH HOCKEY ECHL Saver of the Week. He was 2-0-0 with two shutouts.
