Prescott Valley, AZ 10/21/09 - The Amarillo Gorillas carried their momentum from opening weekend to score another two points Wednesday evening, defeating the Arizona Sundogs 5-2.
The first period went back and forth as Amarillo struck first. At the 7:22 mark, forward Jason Hill, who made Brian Pellerin's starting lineup, drilled the puck from the near side of the net for the Gorillas' second power-play goal of the season and first career CHL goal. The Sundogs fought back, as defenseman Marek Jancek hammered home a rebound shot from defenseman Chris Bartolone to tie the game at one. End of the first, Amarillo 1 Arizona 1.
Your Gorillas took it to the Sundogs in the second period, scoring twice to take a 3-1 lead. The first goal was another Stuart MacRae beauty, beating Sundogs goaltender Kyle McNulty for his second goal on the season. An unfamiliar Gorilla face found the twine at the 13:49 mark, as defenseman Jake Obermeyer took a David Nimmo face off win at the near circle and squeaked his shot by the Arizona defense to give Amarillo the 3-1 lead going into the second intermission.
Arizona pulled the game within one goal as forward Steve Potvin scored at the 4:39 mark of the final frame. Amarillo answer with two special team goals, a shorthanded marker credited to Jake Morissette and a power-play goal for Anthony Battaglia off a beautiful Stuart MacRae pass with less than 3 minutes to go in the game.
Amarillo Goaltender Mike Brown stopped 44 of 46 Sundogs shots.Jason Hill and Jake Obermeyer scored their first CHL goals.
On Friday, October 23rd and Saturday, October 24th the Gorillas return to the Amarillo Civic Center.
