Amarillo Gorillas News Release

Amarillo, TX 2/19/09 - The Amarillo Gorillas, a member of the Central Hockey League, officially announced Robert Simmons as the team's general manager Thursday.

Simmons, who had been the Gorillas' business manager since Randy Sanders took over majority ownership of the team last April, will begin duties in his new position effective immediately.

"Naming Robert as our general manager allows me to concentrate my efforts on gathering local support to make professional sports successful in the Texas Panhandle," Sanders said. "Robert is an experienced front office man, and worked with us in Austin last year when the IceBats made the playoffs. He is the ideal person to manage the area's only professional hockey team."

The Gorillas will be back in action this Saturday and Sunday, hosting the Laredo Bucks on both nights. Saturday is 'NASCAR Night' in the Jungle, with the Gorillas wearing specialty racing-themed jerseys to be auctioned off after the game. Also, the first 300 fans to redeem a "Cowbell Card" at the customer service table Saturday night will receive a free cowbell courtesy of Chick-Fil-A. The cards can be picked up at the Chick-Fil-A location at 45th and Coulter Streets in Amarillo.
