Amarillo Gorillas News Release
AMARILLO, TX â The 2004 Dodge CHL All-Star Game will be one of the best attended by the Amarillo Gorillas with three players taking part and now their broadcaster has been added to be part of the festivities.
The Voice of the Gorillas Denis J. Puska will be joining New Mexico Scorpions Broadcaster Mike Sheehan and the voice of the Bossier-Shreveport Mudbugs Steve Mears on the all-star broadcast team. The trio will be handling the play by play, color commentary and sideline reporting when the game airs on the CHL All-Star Broadcast Network.
Further details on the All-Star broadcast on times and stations will be known at a later date.
""The key to the success of an organization is how its players, coaches and staff all work together and feed off of each other's success," said Gorillas Head Coach/Director of Hockey Operations and Assistant General Manager Joe Ferras. "When the team was made aware of Denis' selection to the all-star game, this was just as exciting and as important as the news of the players being selected as starters."
Puska was thrilled with the announcement.
"This is a tremendous honor for me and something I never expected, said Puska. "The CHL has such a depth of good quality announcers and I am just happy to be able to represent them."
Puska, a native of Kapuskasing, Ontario Canada, is in his second season with the Amarillo Gorillas and third year in Amarillo. He was nominated for the CHL Broadcaster of the Year one year ago. Denis has called games in five continents over the past 22 years.
"To have Denis J. Puska bringing the number of Gorillas representatives to four being selected to the all-star game is a well deserved accomplishment for Denis personally, and for the organization as a whole," said Coach Ferras.
This is the first is the first time in Amarillo professional hockey history that three players, plus a member of the organization will attend an all-game. Puska, joins Amarillo Gorillas goaltender Shawn Degagne, defenseman Mark DeSantis and forward Derek Hahn.
The Amarillo Gorillas return to the ice at the Bank One Jungle on Thursday night when they entertain the Odessa Jackalopes at 7 p.m. It's Cox Communications Night and fans are encouraged to come out and see this Southwest division battle.
