WINDSOR, CO - The Colorado Eagles of the Central Hockey League (CHL) crushed the Lubbock Cotton Kings at home tonight, 6-1. The Eagles sold out their eighteenth consecutive home game tonight, 5,211 fans were in attendance. The Eagles are now 23-10-2 and have 48 points. The Cotton Kings are now 9-17-6 on the season with 24 points. Eagles centers Brad Patterson and Ryan Tobler, defenseman Brad Williamson, right winger Mike McGhan, left winger Karlis Zirnis, and forward Daniel Bohac each scored in the match up. Eagles goaltender Gian Baldrica recorded his fifth win of the season (continuing his undefeated streak) by saving 23 of 24 shots. Lubbock's only goal was scored by center Jan Melichercik. Cotton Kings netminder Jeremy Symington saved 25 of 31 shots.
Lubbock had a rude awakening in the first period. The Eagles managed to put four goals past Lubbock netminder Jeremy Symington, out shooting the Cotton Kings 14 to five. Eagles scoring started five minutes thirty-seven seconds into the period when Patterson scored, assisted by defensemen Brent Thompson and Williamson. After assisting on the first goal of the game Williamson netted a pass from Patterson (10:28). The Eagles assault persisted when only fifty-six seconds later McGhan scored a power play goal assisted by forward Phil Crowe and defenseman Jesse Cook. The Eagles took it to the Cotton Kings one last time before the period ended when Tobler netted a fast, high shot from Zirnis and forward Daniel Bohac, ending the period ended with a 4-0 Eagles lead.
Seven minutes forty-seven seconds into the second period Cotton Kings Melichercik managed to get the puck past Baldrica. He was assisted by left winger Paul Fioroni and right winger Dave MacIntyre. With one minute fifty-eight seconds left in the period, Eagles Zirnis took a pass from Williamson all the way down the ice and slipped it past Symington, ending the period with a 5-1 Eagles lead.
The only third period goal came on a power play (5:37) when Bohac scored assisted by forward Cam Kuzyk and Thompson. Because the Colorado Eagles scored six goals they earned a free Subway sandwich for every fan in the sold out crowd. This is the sixth time (and the second time against Lubbock) that fans have enjoyed a free sandwich from Subway. The last Subway giveaway was January 2 against Oklahoma City when the Eagles shutout the Blazers 6-0.
Saving 23 of 24 shots, Baldrica earned his fifth win with the Eagles and of his professional career, thus remaining undefeated in his first season as a professional. The Eagles out shot the Cotton Kings 31 to 24.
