Derek Hahn Added to CHL-All-Star Game

AMARILLO, TX – The Amarillo Gorillas received more good news from the Central Hockey League on Tuesday when it was announced that forward and the team's leading goal scorer Derek Hahn has been selected to attend the Dodge CHL-All-Star Game in Albuquerque, New Mexico on Thursday, Jan. 22.

The Gorillas will be sending a record three participants in the all-star game, joining several other teams with three.

Hahn will be joining teammates goaltender Shawn Degagne and defenseman Mark DeSantis who were voted as starters last week. The Elmira, Ontario Canada native has had a great follow up year to his success one season ago when he won the Central Hockey League's Rookie of the Year Award.

"It is a great accomplishment for Derek coming off an outstanding rookie season," said Gorillas Head Coach/Director of Hockey Operations and Assistant General Manager Joe Ferras. "Derek has continued with his excellent play and leadership and has a been a force our hockey club every night."

Hahn, a native of Elmira, Ontario Canada has 18 goals and 18 assists for 36 points in 34 games. He has netted two power play goals and three game winning markers.

"We are looking for Derek to be a go-to-guy in the second half of the season," said Ferras. "For coach Terry Ruskowksi to choose Derek to be a member of this year's all-star team gives credit to the Amarillo Gorillas organization and rewards Derek for his great job he has done on the ice."

The second year forward, who is a graduate of the Rochester Institute of Technology in Rochester New York, has been a leader for the Gorillas offensively and a great part of their success.

The Dodge CHL All-Star Game is slated for Thursday, Jan. 22 at Tingley Coliseum in Albuquerque New Mexico. All-Star festivities include the Banquet on Wednesday Jan. 21 with guest speaker Phil Esposito, the media luncheon, the skills competition and the game itself. WWE Superstar Shawn Michaels will be also a special guest of the Scorpions on the night of the game. For ticket information on the all-star game, please contact 1-505-881-7825.

The Amarillo Gorillas return to Central Hockey League action tonight (Tuesday) at 7 p.m. when they travel to San Angelo face the Saints at the San Angelo Municipal Coliseum. Fans can tune into the game beginning with Gorillas Game Night at 6:40 p.m. followed by all of the action on the Bank Of America Amarillo Gorillas Hockey Network through Hot 99.7 FM and www.amarillogorillas.com at 7 p.m.
